The only time acne form is when bacteria in our skin invades our face and irritate it. The red swelling spots is the result of irritation. The bumps can either be the oil clog in the pores or pus. Bacteria in our skin will only multiply to acne-potential amounts when there is excessive oil production in the skin. Oil is the breeding ground of acne bacteria. Therefore, it is important to know what causes our skin to produce more oil than what is needed. Most of the time, the reason is the androgenic hormones produced by the body, hence the term hormonal acne. It usually happens to teenagers, adults and people who just happen to have a lot of it. These facts lead to questions that we will answer in this article.
Why do teenagers tend to have oily skin? Puberty is the phase where an individual transform his or her body to a form more inclined to one’s gender, whether male or female. Because of this more hormones are produced which usually stabilize after puberty. During puberty, the body produces more androgens, which forms the body according to gender, adds sex drive, changes the tone of the voice and unfortunately, contributes to the production of excess oil.
Does acne really go away after puberty? In general, this is what’s supposed to happen but for some, acne continues to stay even after puberty. There many reasons that cause hormonal imbalance in adults. One of which is pregnancy and menopause. Monthly period can also cause acne to some women. While there are many women who suffer from acne after puberty, men is also likely to suffer from the same predicament that can last for years if not treated properly.
Does acne run in the family? There are so many people who insist on this claim. However, I have yet to discover a well-founded experiment or documentation about it. I also do not believe that we are born with bacteria in our body as a biological heirloom from our parents. We are bacteria-free and those tiny critters just stick to us a few hours after we are born. On the other hand, it is very much possible to inherit the same type of complexion and the same manner of oil production.
Hormonal acne may seem like it is inevitable to many. It maybe is, especially to those who are already suffering from it. However, considering all the information we have documented in the previous articles, acne may be vicious but with proper care and treatment, we can beat it!
